Genetic linkage map

A genetic linkage map is an essential resource for plant genetic studies and crop improvement but has not been generated for Nelumbo. We aimed to develop genomic simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers from the genome sequence and construct two genetic maps for Nelumbo to assist genome assembly

With genomics and the study of specific genes comes the many possibilities to improve human life and help us live longer and healthier lives. As more and more advances are made and scientists learn new and wonderful things about our genetic makeup, the more we as the average human will be able to benefit from genetics and mapping.

A genetic map has all the known genes or genetic markers arranged on chromosome according to their genetic distance. The map is drawn according to the recombination frequencies of the linked genes. Genes on different chromosomes belong to different linkage group.
